APOP Prevalence Survey

Join the effort to track pet obesity and strengthen the data available to veterinary teams, researchers, and organizations working to improve pet health worldwide.

Why your participation matters

The survey helps monitor real-world obesity trends in dogs and cats and supports better prevention, diagnosis, and treatment strategies.

Population data

Track real-world trends

Take part in the 2026 Pet Obesity Prevalence Survey, a biennial study that monitors obesity in dogs and cats across clinics worldwide.

By collecting basic weight and Body Condition Score, or BCS, data for pets seen in your clinic around World Pet Obesity Week in October, you help build the dataset the profession depends on.

Clinical impact

Inform care and policy

Your clinic’s data raises awareness, guides future research, and supports better prevention and treatment strategies, improving the lives of pets everywhere.

APOP aggregates and reports results at the population level. No individual clinic data is published without permission.

How it works

A simple three-step process designed to fit into routine veterinary workflows.

1 Sign up

Register your clinic or program. We’ll email survey details and timelines as October approaches.

2 Collect data

During World Pet Obesity Month, record species, weight, and 1–9 BCS for routine visits. Keep it simple and consistent.

3 Submit data

Enter your totals through the APOP survey form. We compile and analyze the results and publish the findings.

Participate or partner

Clinics, hospitals, universities, veterinary groups, and sponsors can all help expand the reach and value of the survey.

Clinics and hospitals

For clinics and hospitals

  • Enroll your clinic and get reminders and a simple data sheet.
  • Collect BCS, using 1–9 whole numbers, and weight for dogs and cats during routine visits.
  • Submit your data after the observation window.
Academic and industry partners

For universities, groups, and sponsors

Help broaden the reach by engaging more clinics and programs across regions. We welcome academic and organizational partners.
